The Czech market for dried shelled legumes expanded significantly from 2018 to 2022, with volume growing from 141 thousand tons to 198 thousand tons. This growth was supported by a sharp increase in domestic production, which rose from 154 thousand tons to 245 thousand tons over the same period, while exports more than doubled from 32 thousand tons to 70 thousand tons.

After a temporary contraction in 2019, market volume accelerated in 2020 and 2021, peaking in 2022. The market then declined to 178 thousand tons in 2023, accompanied by a decrease in production to 222 thousand tons. In value terms, the market followed a similar trajectory, rising from $77 million to $121 million by 2022 before falling to $110 million in 2023.

Czechia's production of dried shelled legumes rebounded after two years of decline. In 2020, the country produced 181.3 thousand tons, marking a significant 24.8% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production decreased by 11.2%, which translates to an average annual decline of 3.9%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 145.3 thousand tons, while the sharpest drop occurred in 2018 with a 24.5% decrease.

Following a two-year downturn, Czechia's dried shelled legumes production saw a recovery in value terms. In 2020, the output was valued at 85 789 thousand US dollars, representing a 28.4% year-over-year increase. Between 2017 and 2020, the production value fell by 11.4%, averaging an annual decline of 3.9%. The lowest value was observed in 2019 at 66 834 thousand US dollars, with the most substantial decrease taking place in 2018 at 20.0%.

Czechia's exports of dried shelled legumes by volume grew for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports reached 37 347 tons, up 7.7% from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports increased by 3.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.1%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2018 at 31 887 tons, which also saw the largest decline of 11.8%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the biggest increase at 8.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany, Slovakia, and Poland were the primary destinations for Czechia's dried shelled legumes exports by volume. Germany accounted for 53.4% of exports, Slovakia for 9.7%, and Poland for 9.5%. Together, these three markets represented 72.7% of total export flows.

After a two-year decline, Czechia's exports of dried shelled legumes by value showed an upturn. In 2020, exports amounted to 17 668 thousand US dollars, a 10.8% increase compared to 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, export value rose by 3.1%, equivalent to an annualized growth rate of 1.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 15 949 thousand US dollars, while the most significant drop occurred in 2018 with a 6.6% decrease.

The lowest import volume was recorded in 2019 at 17 473 tons, and the largest drop occurred in 2018 with an 18.0% decrease.

The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 12 985 thousand US dollars, with the most significant decrease taking place in 2018 at 19.8%.

In the 2017-2020 period, Canada, Ethiopia, and Slovakia were among the largest suppliers of dried shelled legumes to Czechia in value terms.
