Market volume then entered a period of contraction, falling to 18 144 t by 2022. This decline coincided with stricter quality and safety enforcement implemented in 2022, when inspections uncovered labeling and quality violations in a majority of tested samples, likely restricting the amount of compliant product available for sale. While consumer interest in healthy and natural foods remained strong throughout this period, import volumes decreased.

A partial recovery occurred in 2023, with the market volume rising to 19 780 t. This rebound took place alongside continued regulatory focus on product standards and was influenced by evolving supply conditions in major exporting countries like Turkey and Uzbekistan.
