Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for concentrated or sweetened milk and cream in Guatemala expanded from 24 000 t in 2018 to 26 600 t in 2023, driven primarily by imports which accounted for the bulk of supply. The market value followed a similar trend, rising to a peak of $107 million in 2022 before moderating to $95.5 million in 2023.

Domestic production remained relatively stable, ranging between 2 900 t and 3 100 t annually. The year 2022 marked a high point for both volume and value, after which the market stabilized in 2023 with a slight volume decrease of less than 0.5%.

In 2024, the Ministry of Economy and the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala promoted milk consumption initiatives in June, supported by the FAO. Concurrently, the Bank of Guatemala maintained exchange-rate policies beneficial to importers of dairy production inputs, while the local brand Trebolac gained attention for its social commitment through milk donations.
