Earlier Report Observations
The Czech market for concentrated or sweetened milk and cream stood at 224 thousand tons in 2018, supported by a traditionally strong and state-subsidized dairy industry. However, the introduction of stricter labeling and quality control requirements through Decree No. 274/2019, which amended technical standards for dairy products, contributed to a sharp contraction in market volume to 147 thousand tons in 2019.
Market volume rebounded to 209 thousand tons in 2020. The following year, continued rigorous monitoring by the State Agricultural and Food Inspection Authority (SZPI) and the implementation of new EU labeling rules led to a renewed decline, with the market falling to 151 thousand tons in 2021.
A more pronounced drop to 75 thousand tons occurred in 2022, a period characterized by regulatory barriers that limited the entry of new players and heightened scrutiny of product labeling. By 2023, product innovations and promotional activities, such as the 'Dairy Product of the Year' competition and new launches by major processors like Madeta, helped stimulate demand, lifting the market volume to 84 thousand tons.
