Earlier Report Observations

The Polish market for unvulcanised rubber compounded with carbon black or silica displayed considerable volatility between 2018 and 2024. After an initial decline from 139.6 thousand tons in 2018 to 112.9 thousand tons in 2020, a strong resurgence in 2021 brought the market volume to 141.5 thousand tons. This recovery extended into 2022, when the market reached 142.4 thousand tons, supported by a reported 28% year-on-year increase in sold production within the national plastics and rubber sector during the first quarter.

The latter part of the period was shaped by a evolving regulatory environment, including the European Union's new packaging rules—which exempt rubber from recyclability requirements—and legislative development of an Extended Producer Responsibility system for used tyres. Against this backdrop, the market volume contracted to 130.7 thousand tons in 2023 and then fell sharply to 96.6 thousand tons in 2024, a year that also saw the planned transposition of the NIS2 cybersecurity directive into Polish law.
