The domestic market volume for coconut, palm kernel or babassu oil in Côte d'Ivoire showed a clear upward trend from 41,452 tons in 2018 to 51,372 tons in 2023. Growth was particularly strong in 2020 and 2021, pushing the market size close to 49,000 tons. After a moderate contraction in 2022, consumption rebounded sharply in 2023 to set a new high for the period. This expansion was driven by changes in domestic production and export volumes, as imports remained negligible throughout these years.

In 2024, the government initiated a major regulatory overhaul for the coconut sector, which is a key source for one of these oils. The Hevea-Palm Oil Council was given extended authority to regulate the coconut value chain, aiming to reverse a long-term decline in national coconut production. Key measures announced included the development of fair pricing mechanisms, support for replanting programs, and a target to increase local processing, all intended to structure the industry and strengthen its competitiveness.
