The market for cocoa shells, husks, skins and waste in Greece experienced significant swings between 2018 and 2021. Starting at 760 tonnes in 2018, volume fell to 655 tonnes in 2019 before recovering to 772 tonnes by 2021.

A sharp contraction to 582 tonnes occurred in 2022, a year when global cocoa supply was tight as major producers Ivory Coast and Ghana could not raise output, reducing raw material availability for Greek production. The market then rebounded strongly to 849 tonnes in 2023, aided by imports of 19 tonnes.
