Belgium's cocoa butter market volume grew from 94.5 thousand tons in 2018 to 99.3 thousand tons in 2019, supported by the country's strong position in chocolate production and export alongside rising demand from an expanding middle class. After a slight dip to 98.2 thousand tons in 2020, the market expanded sharply to 113.0 thousand tons in 2021.

Following the peak in 2021, the market volume decreased to 101.8 thousand tons in 2022 before recovering to 108.8 thousand tons in 2023.

In 2024, the market contracted to 102.7 thousand tons, a period marked by a steep rise in import and export prices driven by global cocoa supply shortages. Concurrently, major manufacturers introduced new sustainably sourced and certified cocoa butter lines, responding to strong consumer preferences for clean-label and ethically produced goods.
