Earlier Report Observations

The chicken meat and offal market in Western Europe began the period at 3.5 million tonnes in 2018, supported by stable global conditions and a consumer shift toward fresh and chilled products. Volume fell to 3.3 million tonnes in 2019, despite ongoing cold-chain investments, before the COVID-19 pandemic reversed the trend in 2020. Pandemic-related stockpiling and home cooking boosted demand for frozen and long-shelf-life chicken, lifting the market back to 3.5 million tonnes.

Health and protein trends became a key driver in 2021, with consumers favoring fresh chicken for its nutritional value, helping push market size to 4.0 million tonnes. Major companies also expanded their ranges with marinated and convenience frozen products. In 2022, however, global supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures overwhelmed these positive trends, causing volume to drop to 3.5 million tonnes. The market then rebounded strongly to 4.2 million tonnes in 2023.
