From 2018 to 2023, the fresh cherry market in North Macedonia showed considerable volatility. Market volume fell from 14 558 tonnes in 2018 to 13 061 tonnes in 2019, then recovered to 14 060 tonnes in 2020. A sharp drop followed in 2021 to 11 219 tonnes, before a partial rebound to 12 519 tonnes in 2022. The market contracted again in 2023, reaching 9 484 tonnes.

In 2024, cherry production reportedly rose by 41% compared to the previous year, driven by a 3.1% expansion of fruit orchard area and overall growth in the country's fruit output. At the same time, climate conditions and agrotechnical factors, including drought and lack of irrigation, were noted as persistent risks to yields.
