The cheese and curd market in Bosnia and Herzegovina grew in volume from 26.8 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 27.4 thousand tonnes in 2019, supported by steadily increasing imports and sustained consumer demand. This expansion was interrupted in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and altered consumption, leading the market volume to fall to 26.0 thousand tonnes.

Market volume continued to decline, reaching 20.7 thousand tonnes in 2021 and 18.9 thousand tonnes in 2022. During these years, significant innovation and new product launches in processed and soft cheese segments, along with a consumer shift toward premium and convenient products, drove growth in market value despite the lower physical volume.

A recovery in volume began in 2023, with the market rising to 21.8 thousand tonnes and further to 23.3 thousand tonnes in 2024. Import activity, including substantial shipments from Austria, contributed to the supply increase. The market is concentrated among leading dairy companies such as Danube Foods and Meggle, which focus on innovation aligned with health and wellness trends.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's cheese and curd production declined for the second year in a row. In 2019, production reached its peak at 15,844 tonnes, but then fell sharply. By 2021, output had dropped to 8,791 tonnes, marking a significant 42.5% decrease from the previous year. Overall, from 2018 to 2021, production fell by 43.1%, which translates to an average annual decline of 17.1%.
