Earlier Report Observations

The Russian ceramic sanitary ware market volume fluctuated between 14.8 million units in 2018 and 13.8 million units in 2024. Initial growth to 15.9 million units in 2019 was fueled by a weakening ruble, which reduced import affordability and accelerated import substitution, boosting domestic sales. This trend was interrupted in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and consumer activity, causing the market to contract to 14.1 million units.

A partial recovery to 14.5 million units occurred in 2021, supported by state procurement programs and the expansion of product segments. However, sanctions and the exit of foreign manufacturers in 2022 led to a decline to 13.5 million units, even as online sales grew and retailers increased their share of private-label goods. The market further adjusted to 12.7 million units in 2023 under continued sanctions pressure, which stimulated local production adaptation. By 2024, sustained import substitution and rising government purchases helped the market rebound to 13.8 million units.
