This shift was further supported by regulatory changes; in 2022, new Bulgarian legislation on the labeling of eggs and products of animal origin came into force, tightening traceability requirements. These measures, alongside continued efforts to combat illegal trade, helped raise quality standards and consumer confidence, supporting the market's expansion in value and volume.

The market's growth trajectory continued robustly through 2023 and 2024, with total volume reaching 239.1 tons in 2024, more than double the 2021 level. In 2019, imports reached their peak at 28 896 kg, but by 2020 they had fallen to a level 22.9% lower than the previous year. Over the entire 2017-2020 period, imports grew by 6%, which translates to an average annual increase of 2.0%. The most significant year-over-year rise occurred in 2018, with a jump of 31.3%.

From 2017 to 2020, Belarus was the dominant source for Bulgaria's imports of caviar substitutes in kind, capturing 81.9% of the total. The remaining imports were distributed among various smaller trading partners.

In 2019, imports peaked at 255.5 K $ US, but in 2020 they fell to 201.8 K $ US, marking a substantial 21.0% decrease compared to the previous year. The largest annual growth was recorded in 2018, with a rise of 14.4%.
