Earlier Report Observations

The cashew nut market in Thailand expanded from 27 234 t in 2018 to 32 258 t in 2019, supported by the formation of farmer cooperatives in Phu Phiang district, which improved collective bargaining and quality control, leading to higher domestic production. Enhanced cultivation practices, including timely fertilization and harvest sorting, further contributed to output quality.

After a decline to 28 263 t in 2020, the market recovered gradually. The promotion of community-based processing, such as roasting and frying, along with the adoption of online sales channels, helped sustain domestic interest. By 2021-2022, product diversification into whole kernels, halves, and pieces, coupled with standardized foil packaging, met varied consumer needs. Moreover, rising health consciousness spurred demand for cashews as snacks and food ingredients, driving market growth to 30 651 t in 2022.

The market continued to grow, reaching 33 810 t in 2023, primarily due to a significant increase in imports, while production remained stable. Exports showed considerable volatility, with a sharp rise in 2024.
