Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the casein market in Central Asia grew from 1 971 tons to 2 709 tons, primarily driven by rising domestic production, which increased from 1 579 tons to 2 412 tons. This expansion was supported by shifting consumer preferences towards high-protein foods, stimulating demand for casein, and the development of production capacities in key regions.

In 2021, the market contracted to 2 583 tons, a 4.6% drop from the previous year, due to a sharp decline in import supplies from 297 tons to just 33 tons, creating a raw material shortage. Although domestic production rose to 2 550 tons, it was insufficient to fully offset the import reduction. The entry of new players during this period intensified market competition.

The market rebounded in 2022, reaching 3 345 tons, as domestic production surged to 3 330 tons under import substitution policies. However, in 2023, the market volume slightly decreased to 3 143 tons, as higher casein prices resulting from increased logistics and supply chain costs affected demand. Throughout these years, import substitution and ongoing production growth remained central to market dynamics.
