The market for fresh carrots and turnips in Denmark began the period at 86 thousand tons in 2018 and grew to 93.4 thousand tons in 2019, supported by a rise in domestic production.

From 2020, the market entered a decline, falling to 75.3 thousand tons in 2020 and then to 63.6 thousand tons in 2021 as production dropped and import volumes decreased.

A steep contraction occurred in 2022, with the market volume reaching a low of 46.1 thousand tons. This was driven by a further reduction in production, a fall in imports, and a significant increase in exports. The implementation of the EU's new organic regulation in January 2022 introduced stricter rules for organic farming, including mandatory carbon-fixing crops and limits on fertilizer use on protected areas, which likely constrained output. In 2023, the market recovered partially to 58.1 thousand tons as production edged up and imports rebounded.
