Between 2018 and 2023, the market volume for fresh capsicum and pimenta fruits in Eastern Asia remained relatively stable, hovering around 17.6 million metric tons. Adverse weather events, such as flooding in the Shouguang region in 2018, temporarily affected local pepper production but had limited impact on overall supply due to coordinated industry responses. In 2019, heavy rains from the previous year contributed to a reduced harvest, which supported higher prices and encouraged production modernization in key areas like Shizhu County.

From 2020 to 2022, market volume showed minor fluctuations without a clear trend, while the market value rose significantly from 36 billion USD to over 45 billion USD. This increase in value was driven primarily by price movements rather than volume expansion.

In 2023, a reduction in the harvest of Sanying pepper varieties led to a slight decrease in overall production and market volume. The supply constraint initially pushed prices upward, but market adjustments later in the year helped stabilize volumes.
