The market for fresh or chilled beans in Melanesia expanded from 140 t in 2018 to 148 t in 2019. This increase was supported by droughts in Papua New Guinea, which prompted the development of improved post-harvest storage methods for beans, reducing losses and making more supply available for consumption.

After 2019, the market volume contracted, reaching a low of 125 t in 2021 before recovering to 137 t by 2023. During this period, domestic production held stable at approximately 143 t per year, while changes in import and export volumes influenced the net supply on the market.

After two years of growth, bean production in Melanesia declined. In 2020, Melanesia produced 142.5 t of beans, marking a slight decrease of 1.6% compared to the previous year. The highest production was recorded in 2019 at 144.9 t, while the largest annual increase occurred in 2018 at 1.8%.
