The market volume for fresh asparagus in Slovakia experienced considerable fluctuations between 2018 and 2023. After starting at 903 tons in 2018, consumption declined over the next two years to a low of 671 tons in 2020. This was followed by a sharp rebound to 904 tons in 2021, almost matching the initial level, before another downward trend set in, culminating in a market volume of just 471 tons in 2023.

In value terms, the market showed a different pattern, particularly in the latter part of the period. While the market value generally followed the volume trend initially, it diverged significantly in 2023. Despite the physical volume falling by 44% that year, the market's value surged by 52% to reach $1.6 million, suggesting a substantial increase in average prices for asparagus in the Slovak market.

Over the six-year period, the Slovak asparagus market contracted in volume by nearly 48% from its 2018 level, while its total value increased by approximately 23%, highlighting a shift towards a higher-value, lower-volume market structure.
