Between 2018 and 2024, the Finnish market for animal guts, bladders and stomachs experienced significant volatility. Market volume in physical terms peaked at 3 363 t in 2019, largely driven by a surge in imports that year, but then entered a sustained period of contraction, falling to 1 254 t by 2023. In value terms, the market declined from 18.9 million US dollars in 2018 to 13.7 million US dollars in 2023, despite some interim fluctuations in trade flows and production levels.

The market contraction accelerated from 2023, influenced by the updated objectives of the EU's Common Agricultural Policy for 2023–2027, which emphasized improving animal welfare standards. This shift began to affect production practices and costs. In 2024, a new national Animal Welfare Act entered into force on 1 January, introducing stricter requirements for animal keeping, including enhanced water access rules. Concurrently, tightened household budgets reduced demand for animal-based products. These regulatory and economic pressures coincided with a sharp decline in domestic production and a significant rise in export volumes, leading to a dramatic reduction in the domestic market volume to just 394 t in 2024.

In 2020, Finland's production of animal guts, bladders, and stomachs reached a value of 1 598 thousand US dollars, marking a 20.9% year-over-year increase. However, looking at the broader period from 2017 to 2020, overall production declined by 3.6%, which translates to an average annual decrease of 1.2%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 1 321 thousand US dollars, while the peak occurred in 2018 with 1 772 thousand US dollars. The most significant drop took place in 2019, when production fell by 25.4%.

Following two consecutive years of decline, Finland's production of animal guts, bladders, and stomachs rebounded in 2020. Output reached 1 759 tonnes, showing a strong increase of 11.9% compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, however, production decreased by 8%, with a compound annual growth rate of -2.7%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2019 at 1 572 tonnes, and the largest decline occurred in 2018 with a 12.6% drop.

In 2020, Finland exported 732 tonnes of animal guts, bladders, and stomachs, representing a dramatic increase of 334.4% compared to 2019. The minimum volume was recorded in 2019 at 168 tonnes, and the largest decline also occurred in that year with a 58.1% decrease.
