The Austrian alumina and primary aluminium market contracted significantly between 2018 and 2020. In value terms, imports spiked to 1.71 billion US dollars in 2022, reflecting higher prices or changed composition, then settled around 1.35 billion in the following years. Exports remained relatively stable, ranging between 211.3 and 234.1 thousand tonnes annually from 2021 to 2024.
