Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2020, the Ivorian alcoholic beer market remained stable, with volumes hovering around 340-350 million liters. Intense competition between the two main players, Solibra (Castel group) and Brassivoire (Heineken joint venture), led to continuous product innovation, such as the launch of the CHILL flavored beer in a 25 cl disposable format, and aggressive marketing campaigns in bars and public spaces. Despite inflationary pressures and rising raw material costs due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, brewers adjusted their pricing strategies, allowing the market to grow slightly to 349.8 million liters that year.

Market expansion accelerated from 2021 onward, with volume jumping to 383.6 million liters in 2021 and then surging by 23% to 471.9 million liters in 2022. This sharp increase was partly driven by Brassivoire's strategic decision to lower the price of its Ivoire bleue 60 cl bottle from 600 to 500 FCFA in September 2022, enhancing affordability and stimulating consumption. Concurrently, Brassivoire broadened its product portfolio while celebrating its fifth anniversary, and the overall growth of African beer production supported the market's expansion. By 2023, market volume reached 502.4 million liters, supported by rising disposable incomes and favorable demographics across the continent.

In 2024, the trend of product diversification continued with Solibra's launch of the premium international beer Corona Extra in Abidjan. Per capita beer consumption rose to 29 liters, up from 27.4 liters in 2022, reflecting sustained demand and market development, although high taxation on alcoholic beverages remained a constant feature of the operating environment.
