Yucatán Leads Mexican Honey Production With 9,893 Tonnes in 2025
Yucatán produced 9,893 tonnes of honey in 2025, accounting for about 16.4% of Mexico’s national output. Its leadership gives the state a central role in a supply chain that exported 26,000 tonnes to 30 countries during the year.
Yucatán accounts for 16.4% of national production
Yucatán was Mexico’s largest honey-producing state in 2025, with output of 9,893 tonnes, according to information released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and reported by Noticaribe. The state supplied about 16.4% of the 60,297 tonnes produced nationwide, placing it ahead of the country’s other major beekeeping regions.
Chiapas ranked second with 6,071 tonnes, followed closely by Jalisco with 6,029 tonnes. Campeche produced 5,653 tonnes and Veracruz 5,297 tonnes. Together, these five states generated 32,943 tonnes, or more than half of Mexico’s total honey output. Yucatán alone produced 3,822 tonnes more than Chiapas, underscoring the scale of its lead within the domestic industry.
Mexican supply returns to growth
National honey production increased by 5% in 2025, rising from 57,430 tonnes in 2024 to 60,297 tonnes. Compared with the 54,122 tonnes recorded in 2020, output was 11.4% higher. The latest increase expands the volume available to domestic processors and exporters while reinforcing the importance of the leading producing states to overall supply.
Mexico’s beekeeping industry is supported by more than 53,000 producers. The country has 2.2 million honeybee hives and another 6,775 hives of stingless bees. These figures show that production depends on a broad rural base as well as a large biological asset. For processors and buyers, output growth therefore reflects activity across thousands of individual operations rather than expansion by a small number of industrial suppliers.
Export recovery raises Yucatán’s market importance
Mexico remains a significant participant in the international honey market. The country is the world’s ninth-largest honey exporter, with a 3.8% share. Between 2021 and 2025, it exported an annual average of 27,200 tonnes worth close to $94 million. In 2025, shipments increased from 20,000 to 26,000 tonnes and reached consumers in 30 countries.
Germany and the United States together accounted for more than 63% of Mexico’s honey export value in 2025. The United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, the Netherlands, Japan and Poland were also among the principal destinations. This concentration makes demand and purchasing conditions in Germany and the United States particularly important for Mexican suppliers, even as the presence of buyers across 30 markets provides some diversification.
Yucatán’s 9,893-tonne harvest gives the state a substantial position in that export-oriented chain. The available figures do not identify exports by producing state, but Yucatán’s share of national output means changes in its harvest can materially affect the volumes available to packers, processors and traders. With national production and international shipments both rising in 2025, the state’s performance will remain an important indicator of Mexico’s capacity to supply domestic and overseas honey markets.
