Shipments rise above 3,500 tonnes

Confectionery companies in Russia’s Vologda region exported more than 3,500 tonnes of chocolate, sugar confectionery and flour-based products during the first eight and a half months of 2026, Newsroom24 reported. The volume was 6.3% higher than in the corresponding period of 2025.

The figures cover an industry of about 50 confectionery manufacturers operating in the region. Their products are sold both within Russia and in foreign markets, giving local processors a mix of domestic and export demand.

The available data provide shipment volumes rather than export values, product-level shares or destination tonnages. It is therefore not possible to determine from the report whether chocolate, sugar confectionery or baked goods generated most of the increase, or how changes in prices affected export revenue.

Moldova and Armenia lead destination growth

Moldova recorded the largest reported increase in purchases of Vologda confectionery, with shipments rising 34.6%. Exports to Armenia grew 31.5%, while deliveries to Uzbekistan increased 27%. Serbia and Belarus posted more moderate gains of 7% and 6%, respectively.

These markets give Vologda producers access to customers across Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. The reported growth rates indicate that Moldova, Armenia and Uzbekistan provided the strongest momentum, although the source did not disclose the absolute volume shipped to each country.

Without destination tonnages, the contribution of each market to the region’s total exports cannot be quantified. A high percentage increase from a smaller base may have less effect on aggregate shipments than slower growth in an established market such as Belarus.

Growth rate moderates during the year

The pace of expansion slowed as 2026 progressed. More than 2,000 tonnes of confectionery were exported in January–June, 18.8% above the same six months of 2025. Growth was subsequently estimated at 9.4% for the first eight months and at 6.3% for the first eight and a half months.

The sequence suggests that shipments in the later part of the reporting period did not maintain the first-half growth rate. The source did not provide monthly figures, however, so the change cannot be attributed to a particular destination, product category, production constraint or seasonal pattern.

Confectionery forms part of broader agricultural exports

Vologda’s overall exports of agricultural and food-sector products increased 39.8% during the first eight months of 2026. Regional suppliers shipped these products to 28 countries, meaning the broader sector expanded substantially faster than confectionery over the periods reported.

The regional authorities are developing agricultural exports partly through Russia’s national project on international cooperation and exports. Governor Georgy Filimonov said the region continued to increase foreign shipments of agricultural products. For confectionery manufacturers, maintaining that expansion will depend on whether recent gains in Moldova, Armenia and Uzbekistan can offset the moderation visible in the aggregate growth rate.
