Hungary’s UBM Group Acquires 65% of Greek Animal-Feed Producer ELVIZ

UBM takes control of established Greek producer

Hungary’s UBM Group has acquired a 65% majority stake in ELVIZ S.A., one of Greece’s largest animal-feed manufacturers, according to Greek publication Xanthinea. The transaction gives the Hungarian agrifood group control of a business with two production facilities, located in Platy in the Imathia region and in Xanthi in northeastern Greece.

ELVIZ has operated in the Greek market for more than 55 years. Its established manufacturing base gives UBM an immediate production presence in Greece rather than requiring the group to build new capacity from the ground up. The value of the acquisition and the ownership of the remaining 35% were not disclosed in the source material.

Combined feed capacity exceeds 1 million tonnes

UBM is one of Hungary’s largest agrifood groups and a significant animal-feed producer. Following completion of the ELVIZ transaction, its total annual feed production capacity now exceeds 1 million tonnes. The figure covers the group’s combined capacity, including the newly acquired Greek operations; separate capacity figures for the plants in Platy and Xanthi were not provided.

The acquisition forms part of UBM’s international growth strategy and strengthens its position in southeastern Europe, Xanthinea reported. For UBM, the two operating sites provide an industrial platform inside the Greek livestock and feed market. For ELVIZ, the change introduces a new controlling shareholder while retaining the company’s long-standing production footprint in Greece.

Xanthi plant enters a new ownership structure

The Xanthi facility is particularly relevant to the local economy because it forms part of ELVIZ’s production base and now comes under the new shareholder structure. Together with the Platy plant, it gives UBM two production points in Greece. The available information does not specify planned investment, changes in output, employment measures or alterations to the plants’ product portfolios.

The transaction also expands UBM’s regional scale at a time when feed manufacturers depend on reliable access to agricultural raw materials and proximity to livestock customers. No details were provided on ELVIZ’s sales volumes, sourcing arrangements, customer mix or cross-border shipments, so the deal’s immediate effect on trade flows cannot yet be quantified. Greek law firm Sardelas Petsa advised UBM on legal due diligence, negotiations and completion of the acquisition. The next indicators for market participants will be any disclosed investment program, capacity use at the two plants and the extent to which ELVIZ is integrated into UBM’s wider production and commercial network.
