Turkish-Egyptian HAMZA-1 drone enters commercial sales phase

HAVELSAN and AOI advance HAMZA-1 to commercial sales

Turkish defense technology company HAVELSAN and Egypt’s Arab Organization for Industrialization, or AOI, have signed a sales agreement for the HAMZA-1 autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle. The agreement, concluded at the El Alamein International Airshow 2026 in Egypt, moves the jointly developed and produced platform into its commercial phase after the establishment of a bilateral manufacturing partnership.

Haber.aero and Uzmanpara report that deliveries are expected to be made to different users under the agreement. TRT Haber says HAMZA-1 deliveries are anticipated in the coming period. None of the reports identifies the customers, targeted markets, delivery schedule, order volume or contract value, leaving the initial commercial scale of the program undisclosed.

Manufacturing partnership began in August 2025

The sales deal follows a strategic cooperation agreement signed by HAVELSAN and AOI on 26 August 2025. That earlier accord covered the joint production in Egypt of autonomous unmanned aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landing. The arrangement combines HAVELSAN’s engineering and technology in autonomous systems with AOI’s local manufacturing capabilities and industrial infrastructure.

The first HAMZA-1 system developed under the cooperation was presented at EDEX 2025 in Cairo in December 2025. Its subsequent move into sales indicates that the partners have progressed from announcing a localization framework and displaying an initial system to preparing deliveries of a marketable product. The supplied reports do not provide technical specifications such as payload, range, endurance or mission configuration.

HAVELSAN contributes experience from several UAV platforms

According to the three publications, the HAMZA-1 program draws on technology accumulated by HAVELSAN through unmanned aircraft developed for different mission concepts. Those platforms include BAHA, BOZBEY, POYRAZ and BULUT. Through HAMZA-1, that engineering base is being paired with production capacity in Egypt rather than relying exclusively on manufacturing in Türkiye.

The model reflects HAVELSAN’s approach to international joint production and localization. For AOI, the program provides a route to manufacture an autonomous vertical-takeoff-and-landing platform locally while incorporating technology from an established Turkish developer. For HAVELSAN, cooperation with an Egyptian industrial organization creates a locally anchored production base for serving customers beyond a conventional direct-export model.

Commercial reach remains to be defined

The agreement gives Türkiye and Egypt a concrete jointly produced system within their expanding defense technology relationship. Expected deliveries to multiple users may also test whether the partnership can convert local production into repeat orders and access to third markets. However, the absence of disclosed buyers, quantities, prices and delivery dates means the deal’s immediate effect on factory utilization and regional UAV supply cannot yet be measured. The next relevant indicators will be customer announcements, production volumes and evidence of completed deliveries.
