Russian pork exports forecast at 430,000-440,000 tonnes in 2026

Russia’s pork exports could reach 430,000-440,000 tonnes worth more than $1.1 billion in 2026, according to the National Union of Pork Producers. Shipments to China rose almost 1.7-fold to 58,500 tonnes in January-June, supporting capacity utilization at large integrated producers.

Industry forecasts exports above $1.1 billion

Russian pork exports could reach 430,000-440,000 tonnes by the end of 2026, with their value exceeding $1.1 billion, according to a forecast from the National Union of Pork Producers reported by ZOL.RU. The projection points to continued reliance on foreign demand as the industry seeks outlets for growing production and a broader range of pork products.

The forecast implies an average export value of at least roughly $2,500 per tonne if shipments finish near the upper end of the projected volume range. The actual product mix will determine the final result because carcass meat, offal and processed or semi-finished products carry different prices. The union identified expansion of the assortment of offal and semi-finished goods as a key factor supporting further growth.

China drives first-half shipment growth

Shipments of Russian pork to China increased almost 1.7-fold in January-June 2026 and reached 58,500 tonnes, ZOL.RU reported. That volume represents about 13%-14% of the industry’s projected full-year exports, although the comparison is indicative because the annual forecast covers all foreign markets and a wider pork product mix.

Russia also ranked fourth among China’s pork suppliers by value, according to the report. The position shows that the Chinese market has become a material destination for Russian producers, while leaving room for further growth through additional product approvals, a larger assortment and deeper commercial relationships with Chinese buyers.

China is not the industry’s only target. Demand from other Asian markets is also helping large vertically integrated holdings load their production facilities. Access to several destinations matters because it reduces dependence on a single buyer and gives processors more options for placing cuts and by-products that may have limited demand or lower prices on the domestic market.

Exports provide an outlet for domestic production

The pork industry remains export-oriented and uses overseas sales to offset volatility in Russia’s domestic market, according to ZOL.RU. For producers, higher exports can support plant utilization and widen the sales base. For processors, the ability to sell offal and semi-finished products abroad can improve the value recovered from each animal rather than relying mainly on domestic sales of standard cuts.

The pork outlook forms part of a broader rise in Russian agricultural trade. Exports of food products and agricultural raw materials reached $10.7 billion in the first quarter of 2026, an increase of 18.8% from the same period of 2025. Pork therefore sits within an expanding agricultural export portfolio, although the available figures do not specify its share of the first-quarter total.

Reaching 430,000-440,000 tonnes will depend on maintaining access to China and other Asian markets while matching their veterinary, product and commercial requirements. The first-half performance in China provides momentum, but exporters will still need sufficient processing capacity, suitable product specifications and stable buyer demand. The projected value above $1.1 billion also makes the composition of shipments important: growth in higher-value semi-finished products could lift revenue even if volume advances more slowly.
