Russian new car sales jump 26.9% in June as weekly volumes hit new highs

Russia's new-vehicle market extended its recovery into mid-2026, with weekly sales of new passenger cars surpassing 30,000 units and June volumes rising sharply against the same month a year earlier, according to industry data providers.

Weekly sales top 30,000 units

New passenger car sales in Russia reached 30,914 units during the seventh week of 2026, from 29 June to 5 July, according to data published by Sergey Tselikov, head of the analytical agency Avtostat, and cited by auto.rambler.ru. The result was 7% above the previous week and 7.3% higher than the same period a year earlier.

The commercial segments showed mixed momentum. Truck sales reached 1,196 units for the week, up 18.2% from the week before and 3.2% year on year. Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales rose 16.3% week on week to 1,487 units, yet remained 21.8% below the level of a year ago, indicating that the business-fleet segment is still lagging the wider rebound.

June market up 26.9%

The combined market for new passenger cars and LCVs grew 26.9% year on year in June 2026, reaching 122,731 units, the Russian outlet Finmarket reports. Passenger cars alone accounted for 116,300 units in June, 29% more than in June 2025, based on Avtostat figures cited by auto.rambler.ru.

The double-digit monthly gain confirms that demand for new cars has strengthened well beyond seasonal patterns, with buyers returning to both domestic and foreign-branded models built inside Russia.

Model leaders

The Lada Granta remained the market's clear leader in June with 11,300 units sold including derivative versions, only 2% below its result a year earlier. The Chinese Haval Jolion, assembled in the Tula region, took second place with 7,870 units — a 2.2-fold increase. The domestic Tenet T7 crossover ranked third, followed by the Lada Vesta at 5,666 units (down 3.5%) and the Tenet T4L. The mix highlights the growing weight of locally assembled Chinese models alongside established domestic nameplates.

First-half performance

Over the first half of 2026, the Russian market closed with 608,600 vehicles sold, 14.8% above the same period last year, according to Avtostat data cited by auto.rambler.ru. The weekly, monthly and half-year figures together point to a broad-based recovery in passenger demand, even as the LCV segment continues to trail the overall market on a year-on-year basis.
