Piedmontese beef enters Dubai’s premium hotel and restaurant market
Italy’s Coalvi consortium has secured an open-ended contract to supply halal-certified Piedmontese beef to leading restaurants and hotels in Dubai and other emirates. The first shipment will travel from Cuneo through Milan Malpensa and reach Dubai by air cargo within 24-36 hours.
Coalvi secures premium hospitality buyers
Italy’s Coalvi consortium has signed an open-ended contract to supply Piedmontese Fassona beef to leading restaurants and hotels in Dubai and other emirates, according to L’Unione Monregalese. The agreement creates a new halal-certified route from farms and processing facilities in Piedmont to the Gulf’s premium hospitality market.
The contract emerged from commercial contacts developed over several years and strengthened during the Piedmont regional government’s “A Taste of Dubai” promotional mission in February. The initiative presented regional food products to buyers, chefs and opinion leaders through dinners and cooking demonstrations. Paolo Bongioanni, Piedmont’s regional councillor responsible for agriculture, food, trade and tourism, said importers and chefs responded strongly to the beef’s quality.
Halal processing and rapid air delivery
The cattle covered by the agreement are raised in Piedmont and slaughtered and cut in Cuneo under certified halal procedures. The first load was preparing to leave Cuneo in a refrigerated vehicle for Milan Malpensa airport, from where it would travel by air cargo to Dubai. The planned journey from the airport to customers’ kitchens takes 24-36 hours.
This short delivery window is central to the offer because the initial assortment is aimed at dishes that depend on fresh, premium cuts. The most requested products are cuts for carpaccio, hand-chopped raw beef and Milanese-style preparations. Coalvi also plans to widen the range to traditional Piedmontese cuts including eye of round, topside and silverside, as well as prepacked hamburgers and chopped-beef portions.
Existing distributor adds a Gulf channel
The deliveries will be handled by the same French group that has supplied London for the past two years, Coalvi president Guido Groppo told L’Unione Monregalese. Using an established distributor gives the consortium an operating channel with experience in serving high-end restaurants outside Italy, while the contract’s unlimited duration provides a basis for repeat business rather than a single promotional shipment.
The publication did not disclose shipment volumes, prices, customer names or the value of the agreement. The immediate commercial test will therefore be whether demand from Dubai’s restaurants and hotels produces regular orders and supports the planned expansion into additional cuts and prepared products.
A gateway for 1,300 Piedmont breeders
Coalvi represents 1,300 breeders of the Piedmontese cattle breed, described by the publication as Italy’s most important native beef breed. For these producers, the Dubai channel offers access to customers that place a premium on origin, processing standards and suitability for distinctive restaurant preparations.
The agreement also positions Dubai as a potential entry point for broader Gulf demand. Expansion will depend on maintaining halal compliance, cold-chain reliability and rapid air logistics from Cuneo. For importers and hospitality buyers, the offer combines traceable Italian origin with a defined delivery system; for Coalvi, the priority is converting an initial premium placement into sustained demand across the emirates.
