Machinery demand lifts Caterpillar quarterly sales above $20 billion

Caterpillar reported second-quarter 2026 sales of $20.5 billion, up 24% year on year, as higher deliveries contributed $3.1 billion to growth. In Romania, Cat distributor Bergerat Monnoyeur retained an estimated 20% share of the construction-equipment market despite lower 2025 revenue.

Machinery demand lifts Caterpillar quarterly sales above $20 billion

Deliveries drive sales beyond $20 billion

Caterpillar exceeded $20 billion in quarterly sales for the first time as demand strengthened across machinery, mining equipment and energy solutions. The North American group reported revenue of $20.5 billion for the second quarter of 2026, an increase of 24% from $16.6 billion in the corresponding period of 2025, according to Agenda Construcțiilor.

The increase came predominantly from higher deliveries, which added $3.1 billion to revenue. Favorable pricing contributed a further $595 million. The larger impact from volumes indicates that the result was based mainly on more equipment reaching customers rather than price increases alone. Rising orders and backlog also pointed to broader demand across Caterpillar’s three main segments: energy, construction industries and resource industries.

Margins and cash generation improve

Operating profitability rose alongside sales. Caterpillar’s operating profit margin reached 20.9%, compared with 17.3% in the second quarter of 2025. The adjusted margin increased to 21.9% from 17.6%. Earnings per share advanced from $4.62 to $7.77, while adjusted earnings per share rose from $4.72 to $8.17.

Company-level operating cash flow totaled $4.4 billion, and Caterpillar held $6.7 billion in cash at the end of the quarter. The combination of higher deliveries, wider margins and a growing order book gives the manufacturer a stronger position entering the second half of 2026. For comparison, Caterpillar generated full-year sales of $67.6 billion in 2025.

Romanian market moves at a different pace

The global expansion contrasts with conditions in Romania. Bergerat Monnoyeur, the country’s Cat distributor, recorded 2025 revenue of 624.7 million lei and net profit of 75.7 million lei. Its sales declined by approximately 17% from 751.9 million lei in 2024, showing that the local market did not match the pace of Caterpillar’s wider growth.

Despite that decline, Bergerat Monnoyeur estimates that it controls about 20% of Romania’s construction-machinery market. Cat accounted for one in every two bulldozers sold in the country during 2025, as well as two in three motor graders, one in three excavators and one in three backhoe loaders. Cat Financial supported 53% of the machines sold by the distributor, underlining the role of credit in converting equipment demand into completed purchases.

For producers and component suppliers, Caterpillar’s results signal stronger factory throughput and demand across construction, mining and energy applications. For dealers and equipment buyers, the Romanian figures offer a more cautious reading: a globally expanding manufacturer can still face weaker revenue in individual national markets. The high share of financed purchases also means that local sales depend not only on project activity, but on customers’ access to workable funding terms.
