Kyrgyzstan’s dairy market grew 6% to 1.6 million tonnes in 2025
Kyrgyzstan’s domestic market for milk and dairy products reached 1.6 million tonnes in 2025, up 6% from 2024. Dairy remained the country’s largest major food category by market volume, ahead of grain and processed grain products.
Dairy leads Kyrgyzstan’s food market
Kyrgyzstan’s domestic market for milk and dairy products reached 1.6 million tonnes in 2025, an increase of 6% from 2024, according to Akchabar, citing data from the National Statistical Committee. The category recorded the largest market volume among the country’s principal food products.
The figures underline the central role of dairy in Kyrgyzstan’s food economy. Its market was larger than the 1.4 million tonnes recorded for grain and processed grain products and the 1.28 million tonnes reported for vegetables and melons. These comparisons put dairy 200,000 tonnes ahead of the grain category and 320,000 tonnes above vegetables and melons.
Other major food categories were considerably smaller. Kyrgyzstan’s potato market reached 673,500 tonnes in 2025, while the market for meat and meat products amounted to 357,700 tonnes. Dairy volume was therefore more than twice the potato market and more than four times the size of the meat category.
Demand adds almost 90,000 tonnes in one year
Akchabar reported that domestic dairy market capacity increased by almost 90,000 tonnes during the year. Compared with 2019, the market has expanded by approximately 270,000 tonnes. The longer comparison indicates that the latest annual increase forms part of a broader rise in dairy demand rather than an isolated change in 2025.
For farmers and processors, the additional volume enlarges the potential outlet for raw milk, packaged drinking milk and processed dairy products. It also raises the importance of collection networks, cooling, processing and distribution, because rising market capacity must be served by either domestic supply or products brought in from outside the country.
The published figures do not provide a breakdown between domestic production, imports, exports and inventory changes. They therefore show the scale and direction of the internal market but do not establish how much of the additional demand was met by Kyrgyz producers. That distinction matters to processors assessing local raw-milk availability and to traders evaluating any gap between domestic supply and consumption.
Fruit and berry market records a sharper rise
Dairy remained the biggest category by volume, but fruit and berries posted a more pronounced annual expansion. That market reached 636,900 tonnes, compared with 420,700 tonnes a year earlier. The increase amounted to 216,200 tonnes, although the category’s total volume remained well below the dairy market.
The data present a food market in which dairy combines the largest base with continued growth. For producers, the 6% increase points to a larger domestic customer base; for processors, it supports demand for greater throughput and reliable milk procurement. Importers and exporters, however, need more detailed production and trade statistics before determining whether the 2025 expansion strengthened local suppliers or created additional room for cross-border dairy flows.
