Kazakhstan Opens 1 Billion Tenge Automated Rice Plant in Kyzylorda

Automated plant raises processing capacity

Kazakh agricultural company Abzal i K has commissioned an automated rice-processing plant in the Kyzylorda region, the country’s principal rice-growing area. The project cost 1 billion tenge, according to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Agriculture, as reported by ZOL.ru.

The plant can process 12 tonnes of rice per hour. The new facility is expected to increase the company’s production capacity 2.5-fold while improving processing efficiency. Modern equipment has reduced production waste to 3–4%, allowing a larger share of incoming rice to be converted into finished products.

Integrated production supports value-added output

Abzal i K operates a complete production cycle covering rice cultivation, processing and the manufacture of finished goods. Its own rice fields occupy about 3,000 hectares in the Syrdarya district of the Kyzylorda region. The processing operation produces polished rice and other finished products.

The integrated model gives the company control over raw-material supply and processing, while the additional capacity creates room to market more value-added rice. A company-owned solar power station partially supplies the plant’s electricity needs. The source did not disclose the solar facility’s capacity or the share of total electricity consumption that it covers.

Half of company output goes abroad

About 50% of Abzal i K’s output is sold within Kazakhstan, while the remaining 50% is exported to Commonwealth of Independent States countries, Mongolia and Iraq. The larger processing base could therefore increase the volume available to both domestic buyers and foreign customers, although no forecast for output or exports was provided.

Kyzylorda accounts for about 90% of Kazakhstan’s total rice production, according to the Agriculture Ministry. In 2026, the region’s total area under agricultural crops amounts to 193,700 hectares, including 70,100 hectares planted with rice. Locating the plant close to this concentrated production base should facilitate access to paddy supplies and reduce the distance between cultivation and processing.

The project strengthens Kazakhstan’s capacity to convert domestically grown paddy into polished rice and other finished products. Its commercial effect will depend on plant utilization, crop availability and demand across existing markets. With half of the company’s output already exported, the capacity expansion gives Abzal i K an established route for placing additional production abroad rather than relying solely on growth in domestic consumption.
