Vegetables lead non-grain collection

Kazakhstan’s farmers have harvested more than 6.3 million tonnes of major agricultural crops excluding grain as the country’s field campaign continues, Kazinform reported, citing the government. The collected volume includes 2.4 million tonnes of vegetables, the largest category in the official breakdown.

Farmers have also gathered 1.8 million tonnes of melons and other cucurbit crops, 1.2 million tonnes of potatoes and 906,500 tonnes of oilseeds. The figures are operational results for the current stage of the campaign rather than a final production estimate, as harvesting remains under way. The government did not provide comparisons with the previous season, planted areas for these crops or regional production figures.

Fuel and fertilizer support fieldwork

Regional headquarters are coordinating field operations and working to create the conditions required to complete the harvest on time. Kazakhstan has allocated 401,100 tonnes of diesel fuel to the regions for harvesting and autumn fieldwork, according to the government. The availability of fuel is particularly important while several crop groups are being collected and farms are also preparing land for the next production cycle.

Fertilizer deliveries are continuing in parallel. Agricultural producers’ annual requirement is estimated at 2.3 million tonnes of mineral fertilizers. Contracts have been signed and 2 million tonnes have already been shipped, equivalent to 85% of the annual volume. The authorities say the fuel and fertilizer measures are intended both to prevent interruptions during the current campaign and to support timely preparation for the next crop cycle.

Storage and market supply become the next priorities

The government identified the timely completion of harvesting, preservation of collected crops, proper grain intake and the formation of sufficient food-grain stocks as the immediate priorities. For vegetables, potatoes, melons and oilseeds, the reported volumes indicate substantial physical availability, but the eventual market effect will also depend on storage, processing and the amount of marketable output after harvest losses.

The government expects the new harvest to create conditions for supplying the domestic market with quality products and developing Kazakhstan’s agricultural export potential. It did not specify expected export volumes, destination markets or prices for the non-grain crops. Separately, officials previously reported that Kazakhstan had harvested 7.7 million tonnes of grain at an average yield of 14 centners per hectare, while 93% of the wheat crop was of food quality. Those indicators strengthen the overall supply picture, although final availability for domestic buyers and exporters will depend on completion of the campaign and the quality and preservation of harvested produce.
