Java Coffee Festival generates Rp67 billion in business matching for Indonesian SMEs

Festival turns promotion into commercial deals

Bank Indonesia’s Java Coffee & Flavors Fest 2026 generated Rp67 billion in business matching, reinforcing the event’s role as a commercial platform for Indonesian coffee, cocoa and tea businesses. Held at Surabaya City Square from July 17 to 19, 2026, the festival brought together 60 small and medium-sized enterprises supported by Bank Indonesia across Java.

The program combined product promotion with meetings between SMEs and prospective buyers, business partners and investors. Business matching and coaching sessions were designed to give participating companies access to broader domestic and international markets. For smaller processors and brand owners, such meetings can shorten the route to buyers while providing direct feedback on product specifications, packaging and commercial readiness.

Surya reported that the festival displayed coffee, chocolate and tea products from several regions of Java. Bank Indonesia positioned the event as part of its effort to increase the value added to Indonesia’s leading commodities and expand the market reach of SMEs, which play a central role in the country’s coffee industry.

Indonesia produces 780,000 tonnes of coffee annually

Rifki Ismal, deputy head of Bank Indonesia’s East Java representative office, said Indonesia is the world’s fourth-largest coffee producer after Brazil, Vietnam and Colombia. National coffee output reaches 780,000 tonnes per year, with East Java among the largest contributing regions.

That production base gives Indonesian suppliers considerable scope to build sales in the global coffee market. The commercial challenge is not limited to growing more beans: smaller producers must also improve processing, branding, consistency and access to buyers if they are to capture more value. JCFF’s inclusion of cocoa and tea widens the platform beyond coffee and gives buyers an opportunity to assess several Indonesian beverage and flavor commodities in one location.

Rifki said export-oriented flagship commodities were important for maintaining domestic economic stability and competitiveness amid global uncertainty. He cited geopolitical conflict in the Middle East, high energy prices and fluctuations in world commodity prices as pressures on the international economy. These factors can affect processing and logistics costs as well as purchasing decisions by overseas buyers.

Organizers target growth beyond the previous festival

Bank Indonesia expected the 2026 event to exceed the previous edition, which attracted about 130,000 visitors and recorded Rp107 billion in total transactions over three days, according to Surya. The Rp67 billion business-matching result is a narrower commercial measure than total event transactions, but it indicates concrete buyer interest in the participating SMEs and their products.

Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi said the festival supported the city’s economy by drawing visitors and business participants while introducing regional products to a wider market. The opening was also attended by East Java provincial economic bureau head Aftabuddin Rijaluzzaman and Indonesian House of Representatives Commission IX member Indah Kurnia. For producers, processors and traders, the lasting value of the festival will depend on how much of the matched business proceeds to contracted orders and repeat sales after the three-day event.
