Production passes 30 million vehicles

China’s GAC Group has reached cumulative worldwide production of 30 million vehicles, marking a new scale milestone as the automaker accelerates its international expansion. El Periódico reported that the record vehicle recently left the group’s production line, following sustained investment in innovation, technology development and industrial capabilities.

GAC is one of China’s largest automotive groups and has more than 70 years of industrial experience. It develops and manufactures vehicles under the GAC Motor, AION and HYPTEC brands, with a focus on electrification, connectivity and intelligent driving. Through joint ventures in China, the group also produces vehicles for Toyota and Honda. El Periódico said J.D. Power had ranked GAC Motor as the leading Chinese brand for initial quality for eight consecutive years in its China Initial Quality Study.

Exports climb 132% in the first half

GAC’s international network now covers 110 countries and regions and includes more than 750 sales and service locations. The group also operates seven production plants and nine international spare-parts logistics centers. These assets give GAC a broader base for vehicle distribution, after-sales support and parts availability as it enters additional markets.

Exports increased 132% in the first half of 2026 and exceeded 120,000 vehicles, according to El Periódico. The figures indicate that overseas deliveries are growing much faster than the group’s mature production base. For distributors and service partners, that pace raises the importance of local inventories, spare-parts supply and maintenance capacity. For established automakers, it adds another Chinese producer with sufficient manufacturing scale and a growing commercial footprint to compete across multiple regions.

Austria and Spain anchor the European push

GAC has officially started series production of the AION UT for Europe at Magna Steyr’s facilities in Graz, Austria. The AION V is also produced for the European market. Manufacturing through an established European contract producer gives GAC local production support while allowing the vehicles to be built to the quality and manufacturing requirements applied by the continent’s automotive industry.

In Spain, Grupo Invicta has become GAC’s official importer and is already marketing the AION UT and AION V. The models were developed for European customers, with an emphasis on quality, safety, technology and equipment. Grupo Invicta President Julián Alonso described the production milestone as support for the brand’s new phase in Spain and said the importer aims to build a lasting presence based on quality, engineering, technology and innovation. Spain is one of GAC’s strategic European markets, while Austrian production provides an industrial platform for the broader regional rollout.
