Frozen strawberries take the lead

Egypt’s frozen strawberry exports reached $558 million, placing the product at the top of the country’s food export list, according to Banker.news. The figure highlights the international demand for Egyptian produce and the growing commercial role of freezing, processing and packaging in converting agricultural output into higher-value food products.

The performance also gives frozen strawberries an unusually prominent position within Egypt’s processed-food trade. Unlike fresh fruit, frozen products can be stored and transported over longer periods, allowing processors and exporters to serve distant markets and operate beyond the limits of the fresh harvesting season.

Exports remain concentrated among 15 products

Banker.news reported that 15 food products accounted for about 72% of Egypt’s total food-industry exports. The group includes agricultural and processed food items, although the publication did not provide the value of total sector exports or a complete breakdown of the other products.

This concentration gives exporters a strong base of established products, but it also makes performance sensitive to demand, crop availability and processing capacity in a relatively narrow group of categories. For producers, the $558 million strawberry figure shows how investment in freezing and packing can increase the export value generated from Egypt’s agricultural base.

The food industry also provides Egypt with foreign-currency revenue. Further growth will depend on processors’ ability to maintain product quality, secure sufficient agricultural supply and meet the requirements of overseas buyers. The available figures do not specify export volumes, average prices or the period covered by the $558 million total, so it is not possible to separate the effects of shipment growth and pricing.

Russia offers room for expansion

Amwal Al Ghad, citing Egypt’s Food Export Council, reported that Egyptian food exports to Russia amounted to $97.6 million, with frozen strawberries leading the product mix. The publication described Russia as a promising market because of the scale of its purchases of processed foods and some agricultural products.

Russia imported about $18.518 billion of processed food and selected agricultural products during the period cited by Amwal Al Ghad. Compared with that market-wide figure, Egypt’s reported sales indicate substantial room for suppliers to broaden their presence, though the figures alone do not establish Egypt’s share in directly comparable product categories.

Frozen strawberries are therefore important on two levels: they are Egypt’s largest reported food export product and a leading item in sales to Russia. The immediate opportunity for Egyptian growers, processors and traders is to build on that position through additional processing and access to new markets. At the same time, diversification across more products and destinations would reduce dependence on one standout commodity and a limited number of established export lines.
