Turnover of medicines authorised for sale in Bosnia and Herzegovina reached about 1.18 billion convertible marks (KM) in 2025, 9.3 percent more than a year earlier, according to data from the Agency for Medicinal Products and Medical Devices of Bosnia and Herzegovina, cited by Indikator.ba and reported by bosnainfo.ba.
Foreign manufacturers accounted for 978.9 million KM of that total, a market share of 82.86 percent. Domestic producers recorded 202.5 million KM, or 17.14 percent. A total of 272 medicine manufacturers are present on the Bosnian market, ten of them domestic.
Roche tops the producer ranking
The largest single manufacturer by turnover was the Swiss company F. Hoffmann-La Roche. Two Bosnian-registered producers follow immediately behind it, ahead of Slovenia's Krka and Novartis Pharma.
- F. Hoffmann-La Roche (Switzerland) - 95.1 million KM
- Bosnalijek - 78.1 million KM
- Hemofarm Banja Luka - 67.5 million KM
- Krka (Slovenia) - 61.9 million KM
- Novartis Pharma - 58.8 million KM
The five largest manufacturers together billed 361.4 million KM, close to one third of the entire authorised-medicine market, and only two of them are domestic companies.
Ten domestic producers, sharply divided
Bosnalijek and Hemofarm Banja Luka are the only domestic names in the overall top three. Farmavita of Vogosca moved up one place, from ninth to eighth on the overall list, with turnover of 40.1 million KM and a market share of 3.40 percent.
The remaining domestic producers operate on a far smaller scale. ZADA Pharmaceuticals of Lukavac held 35th place with 6.95 million KM, AMSAL Pharmaceuticals of Vogosca reported 4.30 million KM and Messer Tehnoplin 2.82 million KM. Further down the list are TGT of Laktasi with 1.55 million KM, Natura Pharm of Siroki Brijeg with 775,900 KM, Pharmamed of Travnik with 354,600 KM and Kras of Laktasi with 21,000 KM. The three largest domestic manufacturers alone account for roughly nine tenths of all domestic turnover.
Wholesale distribution stays concentrated
Hercegovinalijek of Mostar retained first place among wholesalers, handling more than twice the volume of the second-ranked distributor.
- Hercegovinalijek (Mostar) - 220.3 million KM
- Vega PL, formerly Phoenix - 103.7 million KM
- Roche d.o.o. - 95.2 million KM
- Interpromet (Novi Grad) - 87.8 million KM
- MGM Farm - 85.8 million KM
Roche d.o.o. advanced to third place, which puts the Swiss group at the top of the manufacturer list and among the leading wholesalers at the same time. Places six to ten went to Farmacija 2011 of Bihac, Unifarm of Lukavac, Glosarij CD of Sarajevo, Alkaloid Sarajevo and Hemofarm Banja Luka.
Coverage of the data
A total of 44 wholesalers are registered on the Bosnian market, of which 35 submitted data for the report. The figures also cover only medicines holding a marketing authorisation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, so the volumes actually moving through the market are likely to be higher than the reported 1.18 billion KM.
