Egypt exported about 238,000 tonnes of frozen prepared or preserved potatoes worth $253 million in 2025, a 19% increase from 2024. Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates and the United States accounted for approximately 75% of the export value.

Export value reaches $253 million

Egypt exported about 238,000 tonnes of frozen prepared or preserved potatoes in 2025, with shipments valued at $253 million, Hapi Journal reported, citing a statement from the Food Export Council. The products are classified under HS heading 200410 and exclude potatoes preserved with vinegar or acetic acid.

The value represented growth of 19% compared with 2024. Egypt ranked 11th among global exporters of the product and held approximately 2% of worldwide exports, according to the council. These figures place the country among established suppliers in the international processed-potato market, although its global share remains well below that of the largest exporters.

Five markets generate three-quarters of sales

Jordan was the leading destination for Egyptian frozen potato exports in 2025. Shipments to the market were worth $51 million, equivalent to about 20% of Egypt’s total exports of the product. Saudi Arabia ranked second at $45 million and an 18% share.

Brazil was the third-largest market, receiving exports worth $36 million, or 14% of the total. The United Arab Emirates followed with $32 million and a 12% share, while exports to the United States reached approximately $27 million, representing 11%.

Combined exports to these five destinations were worth about $191 million in 2025 and represented approximately 75% of the total. The distribution shows the importance of Middle Eastern demand: Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates occupied three of the five leading positions. At the same time, sales to Brazil and the United States demonstrate that Egyptian processors have also established commercial channels in the Americas.

Growth in value outpaces shipment volume

Between 2020 and 2025, the value of Egypt’s frozen potato exports recorded a compound annual growth rate of 41%, according to the figures published by Hapi Journal. Export volume grew at a compound annual rate of about 36% during the same period. The faster expansion in value than in physical shipments indicates that export revenue increased through more than volume growth alone, although the source did not provide a breakdown of pricing, product mix or contract terms.

The results point to a rapid expansion of Egypt’s processed-potato export industry over the five-year period. For processors, further growth will depend on maintaining access to the five main destinations while developing additional markets. The current concentration provides substantial sales volumes but also leaves exporters exposed to changes in demand or market access in a relatively small group of countries.

The Food Export Council identified stronger penetration of existing markets, diversification of destinations and the opening of new international markets as opportunities for further expansion. For producers and processors, higher export volumes could support demand for processing-grade potatoes and associated freezing capacity. For traders and buyers, Egypt’s rising shipments add another supply origin to a market in which reliability, product specifications and access to cold-chain logistics are central to competitiveness.
