Exports reach 163 countries
Egypt exported about 230,000 tonnes of food between September 5 and 11, 2026, according to the 34th weekly report from the National Food Safety Authority, as reported by Al Dawla News. The volume moved in 3,700 consignments dispatched by 1,424 companies, illustrating the breadth of the country’s food-export base during the reporting week.
The shipments comprised around 720 products, including vegetables and tubers, white sugar, fruit, preserved fruit and vegetable preparations, and other food products. Sudan and Syria were the leading destinations, followed by Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Italy. In total, Egyptian food reached 163 countries, giving suppliers exposure to markets across Africa, the Middle East and Europe rather than concentrating weekly trade in a small group of buyers.
Potatoes and mangoes lead fresh produce
Vegetable exports totaled about 50,000 tonnes across 37 product categories. Potatoes ranked first at 18,000 tonnes, followed by onions at about 14,000 tonnes and beans at 5,000 tonnes. Together, these three products accounted for 37,000 tonnes, or most of the vegetable volume reported for the week.
Fruit exports reached about 30,000 tonnes across 30 categories. Mangoes led with 8,000 tonnes, strawberries followed at about 7,000 tonnes and pomegranates contributed 5,000 tonnes. The mix shows that Egypt’s weekly fresh-produce trade was supported by several crops, while processed products, sugar and other foods made up a substantial share of the overall 230,000-tonne export total.
Ports, certification and inbound trade
Safaga handled the largest number of outbound food consignments, with 665 shipments. Alexandria followed with 545 and Damietta with 455. The National Food Safety Authority issued 1,300 export health certificates during the week under procedures intended to verify compliance with food-safety requirements. Its packing-station and inspection department also conducted 22 missions and 791 inspections of agricultural products prepared for export, while issuing 1,064 export permits for 893 companies.
Egypt’s inbound food trade was slightly larger by weight. Imports totaled about 247,000 tonnes in 2,160 consignments for 875 importing companies. Products included soybeans, oils and wheat. Brazil was the leading supplier, followed by the United States, Indonesia, Ukraine and India, among 82 origin countries. The figures put the week’s reported food trade at roughly 477,000 tonnes in both directions, with imports exceeding exports by about 17,000 tonnes.
Domestic oversight continued alongside border controls. The authority carried out 86 factory inspection visits and registered 16 new facilities. It also conducted 1,603 market-control missions covering 5,656 food establishments in 238 districts through 32 branches. Customs released 1,315 food consignments held under reservation and another 453 through the rapid-release system, while 95 importers received import licenses during the same period.
