Dunapack to acquire three El Pack corrugated packaging plants in Greece

Dunapack expands its Greek production base

Dunapack Packaging Hellas, a member of Austria’s Prinzhorn Group, has signed an agreement to acquire El Pack’s corrugated cardboard packaging operations in Greece. The transaction covers production facilities in Patras, Thebes and Kapandriti and is expected to create one of the country’s strongest corrugated packaging production platforms.

The acquisition remains subject to approval by the relevant regulatory authorities. BusinessNews.gr and Capital.gr report that completion is expected in the second half of 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed. The three acquired plants employ approximately 250 people and recorded revenue of about €43 million in 2025, according to Capital.gr.

Investment and workforce expansion planned

Dunapack intends to combine El Pack’s local expertise and customer base with its regional network, production capabilities and the vertically integrated model of the Prinzhorn Group. The company expects the enlarged operation to strengthen service for customers in Greece and neighboring markets, extending its position in Southeastern Europe.

Capital.gr reports that Dunapack plans a multimillion-euro investment program after the transaction closes, focused on further technological modernization of the acquired facilities. The company also aims to increase the workforce of the acquired business by at least 30% over the following years. Based on the current headcount of approximately 250, the plan points to a material expansion in employment, although no implementation schedule has been disclosed.

A larger platform in a growing market

Dunapack Packaging Hellas has operated in Greece since 1973 and has belonged to the Prinzhorn Group since 2016. It has recently invested in expanding its Schimatari facilities, upgrading equipment and installing new production lines. BusinessNews.gr says Dunapack Packaging has more than 6,000 employees, 24 plants and a presence in 12 countries. Capital.gr describes the wider Prinzhorn Group, active in recycling, paper production and packaging, as employing approximately 10,000 people across 15 Central and Eastern European countries.

The deal comes as Greek corrugated packaging production continues to grow. Data from the Hellenic Paper Packaging Association cited by Capital.gr show that output reached 752.9 million square meters and 370.9 thousand tonnes in 2025. That represented year-on-year growth of 2.97% by area and 4.30% by volume. Demand has been supported by food, retail, logistics and e-commerce, alongside greater use of recyclable packaging. For producers and buyers, the combination creates a larger supplier with three additional industrial locations, while the planned investment could raise technological capabilities and capacity. Its final effect on competition and customer choice will depend on regulatory clearance and how the facilities are integrated after closing.
