Chinese car brands reach record 15.9% share of Poland’s passenger-car market
Chinese brands captured a record 15.9% of Poland’s passenger-car market in August 2026, with BYD becoming the leading Chinese marque. Overall registrations continued to rise year on year, although battery-electric vehicles lost market share.
Chinese marques set another market-share record
Chinese car brands secured a record 15.9% share of Poland’s new passenger-car market in August 2026, up from the previous high of 15.5% in July. BYD became the largest Chinese marque by registrations, marking a change at the top of a segment that is increasingly competing with established European and Asian manufacturers.
Computerworld.pl, citing data from Poland’s Central Register of Vehicles and Drivers, or CEPiK, reported particularly strong growth for several Chinese brands. Omoda’s registrations increased by 106.53% year on year during 2026. The MG ZS ranked fifth among models bought by private customers, with 3,621 registrations, 47.37% more than in the comparable period.
Polish registrations maintain annual growth
Poland registered 51,116 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3.5 tonnes in August. That was an increase of 8.07%, or 3,817 vehicles, from the same month of 2025. Registrations nevertheless fell by 18.14%, or 11,330 vehicles, from July amid the usual summer slowdown.
Registrations across both categories reached 463,431 vehicles from January through August, 9.95% above the corresponding 2025 level. For the first time in the available series, combined registrations in July and August exceeded 100,000 units. IBRM SAMAR forecasts full-year volumes of approximately 645,000 passenger cars and 77,000 light commercial vehicles.
Fleet demand dominates as BEV share declines
The passenger-car segment recorded 45,909 registrations in August, up 8.07% year on year. Its year-to-date total reached 414,162 units, an increase of 9.56%. Corporate and fleet customers accounted for 66.6% of August demand, or 30,597 cars. Computerworld.pl noted that the true business share may be higher because sole proprietors can be classified as private buyers.
Toyota remained Poland’s leading passenger-car brand with 57,730 registrations in 2026, followed by Skoda, Volkswagen, BMW and KIA. Light commercial registrations reached 5,207 units in August, up 8.05% year on year, and 49,269 units during the first eight months, up 13.36%. Renault retained the lead in that market, while Chinese manufacturer JAC recorded a 60,100% increase in registrations from a very low comparison base.
The expansion of Chinese brands did not translate into broader growth for fully electric passenger cars. Battery-electric vehicles represented 4.7% of August registrations, down from 7.8% a year earlier. The figures indicate that Chinese manufacturers are gaining Polish customers across a wider range of powertrains, while established brands face intensifying competition in a market still driven primarily by corporate and fleet purchasing.
