Canada Pledges Up to $3.8 Million to Boost Pork Exports in Asia, Europe and Americas
Canada's government announced up to $3.8 million in funding for Canada Pork through the AgriMarketing Program to expand market access in Asia, Europe and the Americas. The money will support trade shows, trade missions and promotion of the Verified Canadian Pork brand.
Ottawa backs Canada Pork with new marketing funds
Canada's Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, Heath MacDonald, announced on September 17, 2026, in Toronto that the federal government will provide up to $3.8 million to Canada Pork, the organization representing Canadian pork exporters. The funding comes through the AgriMarketing Program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership and is intended to improve market access, raise international awareness of Canadian pork, and support growth of the sector.
The government described pork producers as a cornerstone of Canada's agriculture sector, saying that expanding market opportunities and promoting the quality of Canadian pork helps strengthen the industry and creates conditions for continued growth.
Focus on Asia, Europe and the Americas
Canada Pork will use the funding to promote Canadian pork in new and emerging markets across three regions: Asia, Europe and the Americas. The project centers on three types of activity:
- Participation in major international trade shows;
- Organization of trade missions to target markets;
- Facilitation of direct business meetings between Canadian exporters and international buyers.
According to the announcement, these activities are designed to help Canadian pork exporters build direct relationships with buyers abroad, reach new customers and expand export sales, supporting Canada's broader economic growth.
Verified Canadian Pork brand at the center of the campaign
A key part of the initiative is promotion of the Verified Canadian Pork brand, which the government said highlights Canada's standards in product quality, food safety, animal care and traceability. Building recognition for the brand is meant to reinforce Canada's reputation as a reliable supplier and help the sector stay competitive in a crowded global pork market.
Part of a wider market-access push
The Government of Canada said the investment in Canada Pork forms part of its broader commitment to helping producers and processors access new markets, build international partnerships and showcase the quality of Canadian products abroad. The announcement, reported by producer.com and Mirage News, did not include a breakdown of how the $3.8 million will be allocated among trade shows, missions and other promotional activities, nor did it disclose current Canadian pork export volumes or values.
