Bulog NTT buys 2,330 tonnes of local corn to supply livestock feed

Procurement connects corn farms with livestock producers

Indonesia’s state food logistics company Bulog had purchased 2,330 tonnes of corn harvested by farmers in East Nusa Tenggara, or NTT, by July 2026, according to ANTARA. The entire volume has been allocated to livestock feed, making the procurement program both a market-support measure for growers and a source of raw material for the province’s livestock industry.

Arrahim K. Kanam, head of Bulog’s NTT regional office, said the purchases were intended to give local farmers access to a reliable market at competitive prices. At the same time, the program is designed to maintain the availability of affordable feed ingredients for livestock producers. Bulog considers the regional livestock industry one of NTT’s leading economic sectors.

The arrangement creates a direct connection between two important parts of the agricultural economy. Corn farmers gain an identified buyer for their harvest, while livestock businesses receive locally sourced grain for feed. This matters in a market where uncertainty over sales can discourage farmers from investing in higher productivity and where feed availability directly affects livestock production costs.

Bulog seeks consistent purchases from local growers

NTT has substantial potential for corn cultivation and production, Kanam said. Bulog expects consistent procurement to encourage farmers to raise productivity without having to worry that harvested grain will remain unsold. The company’s role is therefore not limited to handling physical stocks: its purchases are also intended to provide greater certainty over market access and farm-gate prices.

Bulog plans to strengthen coordination with the provincial and local authorities, farmer groups and livestock-sector stakeholders. The objective is to expand corn procurement while supporting food self-sufficiency and improving farmer welfare in the region. ANTARA did not report a future procurement target, a purchasing price or a timetable for additional volumes.

Those missing details will determine the broader market effect. The 2,330-tonne purchase establishes a supply channel, but its impact on planting decisions and feed costs will depend on whether procurement continues across harvest periods, what quality requirements apply and how competitively Bulog prices the grain. Regular buying could give producer groups more confidence to plan output, while predictable distribution would help livestock operators manage feed supply.

Rice purchases broaden regional farm support

Corn is not the only crop covered by Bulog’s procurement activity in NTT. The regional office had previously purchased farm output equivalent to 7,407 tonnes of rice by 12 July 2026, ANTARA reported. Those purchases were intended to reinforce Indonesia’s national food self-sufficiency policy and maintain price stability at the regional level.

Together, the corn and rice programs show Bulog operating across both food and feed supply chains. Rice procurement addresses staple-food availability and regional price stability, while corn purchases serve livestock production and create an outlet for another major local crop. For NTT’s agricultural businesses, the effectiveness of the approach will rest on continuity: farmers need dependable demand, and livestock producers need feed grain that is available at workable prices and in usable volumes.
