Brazil posts record pork export semester as domestic demand cools

Brazil exported 785.4 thousand tonnes of pork in the first half of 2026, the largest first-semester volume since Secex records began in 1997, according to Cepea. Slower domestic consumption pushed the industry toward foreign buyers, and every month topped 110 thousand tonnes for the first time.

Record first half for Brazilian pork

Brazil's pork industry closed the first half of 2026 with its strongest export performance on record, as slower domestic demand pushed processors to lean on international buyers to balance supply. Data released by the Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (Cepea) on Thursday (09.07) show that Brazil shipped 785.4 thousand tonnes of pork between January and June, the largest volume for a first semester since the start of the Secretariat of Foreign Trade (Secex) historical series in 1997.

According to vgnoticias.com.br, softer consumption at home left the sector with a production surplus, and rising exports helped absorb that excess. The result marks a milestone for an industry that has increasingly turned to foreign markets to place volumes domestic buyers are not taking.

Shipments steady month after month

Beyond the headline total, Cepea highlighted the consistency of the flow. For the first time, every month of the first half topped 110 thousand tonnes of exported pork, a performance the center described as unprecedented. That regularity stands out because pork exports usually build momentum in the second half of the year rather than sustaining high volumes from January onward.

Second-half outlook

Traditionally, Brazilian pork shipments gain strength in the closing months of the year. On that basis, Cepea researchers expect the sector to keep its current pace and potentially expand shipments further through December, provided external demand stays favorable.

For importers, the figures point to Brazil as a dependable source of large, steady pork volumes heading into the seasonally stronger part of the year. For producers, the export channel has become the main outlet for supply that domestic buyers are leaving on the table, easing the surplus that weaker home consumption would otherwise create.
