Barilla Hellas Plans Production, Storage and Energy Investment After 2025 Profit Growth

Exports and portfolio expansion lift sales

Barilla Hellas is preparing further investment in production, storage and energy infrastructure in Greece after reporting faster profit growth than sales in 2025. According to News247, the programme will include upgrades to manufacturing facilities, additional warehousing capacity, operational improvements and photovoltaic installations. The company has not disclosed the total investment value or a timetable for completing the projects.

Revenue reached €139.6 million in 2025, up from €133.8 million in 2024. That represented growth of 4.3%, or approximately €5.8 million. News247 reported that exports and stronger sales in categories outside the company’s core pasta business were the principal contributors, broadening the Greek subsidiary’s revenue base.

Politic also identified exports as a decisive factor in the annual performance. Growth beyond pasta is becoming more important to the company’s sales mix as Barilla Hellas seeks to strengthen both its domestic position and its role within the group’s regional network.

Lower pasta prices limit domestic revenue growth

Conditions in the Greek pasta market were more mixed. Barilla Hellas increased sales volumes, but lower average selling prices prevented that volume growth from producing a comparable increase in category revenue. The result highlights the pricing pressure facing food manufacturers even where consumer demand remains sufficient to support higher physical sales.

Barilla Hellas nevertheless retained first place in the Greek pasta market by both value and volume, according to annual Nielsen data cited by the company. Its leadership in the core category provides a stable domestic base, while exports and other product categories offer additional routes for growth.

Profitability improved more rapidly than turnover. Gross profit rose 9.1% to €63.4 million from €58.1 million in 2024. The gross margin therefore increased to about 45.4% of revenue from 43.4% in the previous year.

Earnings before interest and tax increased by approximately 24%, reaching €8.3 million from €6.7 million. The EBIT margin rose to 5.9% from 5%. This €1.6 million increase in operating profit gives the company greater capacity to finance investment internally while input, service, wage and energy costs continue to pressure the food industry.

Capital spending targets capacity and energy

The new programme prioritises modernisation of production units, improvements to operating processes and expansion of storage infrastructure. Barilla Hellas also plans photovoltaic systems intended to reduce dependence on externally supplied energy, improve efficiency and lower the environmental footprint of its facilities. Commercial activities and support for portfolio brands are also included.

Chief executive Carlo Mereghetti said the 2025 performance allows Barilla Hellas to continue committing capital in Greece while supporting its brands and customers. He identified production facilities, energy capabilities and storage infrastructure as areas for further development and reiterated the company’s long-term commitment to the Greek market, employees and partners.

Management remains cautiously optimistic but expects international uncertainty, inflationary pressure, energy costs, supply-chain disruption, wage increases and changing consumer preferences to continue affecting the sector. For manufacturers and suppliers, the pace of the planned projects will now be an important indicator of Barilla Hellas’s capacity strategy. Its performance after 2025 will also depend on export growth, results outside pasta and whether operational and energy investments translate into sustained margin gains.
