Atlantic Grupa acquires Slovenian food producer Osem in deal exceeding €40 million
Atlantic Droga Kolinska has completed its acquisition of Slovenian food producer Osem. The purchase and planned investment, valued at more than €40 million, will turn Osem’s Murska Sobota plant into Atlantic Grupa’s third production center for savory spreads.
Osem joins Atlantic Grupa
Atlantic Droga Kolinska has completed the acquisition of Slovenian food producer Osem, bringing the company’s production plant, brands and employees into Atlantic Grupa. According to Poslovni dnevnik, the total value of the acquisition and planned investment exceeds €40 million.
Osem, headquartered in Murska Sobota, produces meat spreads, processed meat products and canned ready meals. The company owns the Kekec brand, best known for pâtés, and generated revenue of €6 million in 2024. Atlantic Grupa intends to retain Osem’s existing commercial partnerships as well as its production for retailers’ private-label ranges.
The transaction adds an established Slovenian food brand and an operating manufacturing site to Atlantic Grupa’s consumer-goods portfolio. Kekec will expand the group’s existing range of savory spreads, while private-label manufacturing gives the acquired business an additional channel beyond its proprietary products.
Murska Sobota becomes a third production center
Atlantic Grupa plans further investment at Osem’s Murska Sobota factory. The program will focus on developing production, increasing capacity and creating jobs. No specific capacity target, employment figure or timetable for the investment was disclosed in the source material.
The group plans to establish Murska Sobota as its third production center for savory spreads, alongside Izola in Slovenia and Hadžići in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Output from the new center will be aimed primarily at export markets in Western Europe. This gives the acquisition a role beyond consolidation in Slovenia: it adds manufacturing capacity intended to support Atlantic Grupa’s wider regional and export business.
The location also complements the group’s existing Slovenian operations. Atlantic Grupa operates a soft-drink bottling plant in Rogaška Slatina and factories producing coffee and savory spreads in Izola. Its Slovenian distribution and logistics activities are based in Ljubljana. Osem therefore enters a network that already combines local manufacturing with established warehousing, distribution and market access.
Slovenia’s role in the regional network
Atlantic Grupa describes Slovenia as one of its key production, distribution and investment markets and as an important part of its long-term development strategy. Adding Murska Sobota broadens that base geographically and increases the group’s exposure to prepared foods, particularly meat-based spreads and canned meals.
For suppliers and retailers, continuity is a central part of the announced approach. The decision to preserve existing business relationships and private-label production should allow Osem to continue serving current customers while its plant is integrated into Atlantic Grupa’s larger distribution system. The Kekec brand, meanwhile, gives the buyer a recognizable platform for developing the branded side of the acquired portfolio.
Atlantic Grupa is a Croatian multinational and one of southeastern Europe’s leading producers and distributors of consumer goods. It operates through companies and representative offices in eight countries and exports its products to more than 40 markets worldwide. The acquisition links Osem’s €6 million revenue base and local production capabilities with that broader commercial network, while the planned investment indicates that the Murska Sobota facility is intended as a growth asset rather than solely an addition to the existing portfolio.
